The church in Palatine, Illinois is the outgrowth and spread of the church in Chicago, which first met in 1970. In 1988 several families started meeting in Mount Prospect, Illinois and began to have the Lord’s Table together. There were about 35 believers meeting at that time. With the help of the church in Chicago, a proper meeting hall was purchased in February of 1992 and the church in Palatine was formally established.
We highly treasure the Holy Bible as God’s revelation of Himself and of His eternal purpose. We hold the common faith which is revealed in the Bible and is common to all genuine believers. As is true of all believers in Christ, we are members of His one Body, the church. In order to practice the oneness of the Body with all the Christians in Palatine, we meet as the church in Palatine. We are in fellowship with over 2,000 local churches worldwide to express the one Body of Christ.
There are presently about 75 believers actively meeting together to pursue the Lord and spread His gospel in the Northwest Suburbs. Because of the Lord’s blessing with increase, we completed the purchase of an acre of property next to our current meeting hall. This now gives us two acres of land. As the Lord leads and continues to bless with His presence, we plan to build a larger building in the near future.
We also meet in homes during the week for prayer and Bible study. It is during these times that we are able to have intimate fellowship and encourage each other with mutual shepherding.
In order to continue to cooperate with the Lord in His desire to reach out to the community, we are focusing our outreach efforts in several areas:
Holding regular gospel meetings approximately every six weeks.
Placing gospel messages on popular cable television channels.
Cooperating with Bibles for America, a non-profit organization, to offer all homes in the Northwest suburbs the opportunity to receive a free New Testament study Bible.
Cooperating with forty college students during the summer of 2001 in holding special Gospel meetings in several nearby cities.
We are very concerned for our next generation and have special young people’s meetings weekly on Friday nights. We are very clear that the Lord has committed these young ones to us for the future of His interests. Of course, on the Lord’s Day we also have separate meetings for all ages of children and young people up through high school so that we can meet their special needs.
Our Lord’s Day jubilee meeting is focused on reaching both believers and unbelievers. It is our desire during this time to fully understand and experience what the Lord meant when He proclaimed “the year of jubilee” in Luke 4:18-19. The Christian life is a life of “joy and peace in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17) and we endeavor to know and experience this joy and peace in reality in our daily life. Our meetings are full of the rich ministry of the truth and allow ample opportunity for all the believers to share and testify concerning their experience and enjoyment of the Lord Jesus in their daily life.
We endeavor to cultivate a Christian living and church life according to the following four principles that practically and organically build up the Body of Christ:
Begetting – to bear fruit (John 15:4-5, 16)
We abide in Christ and “go forth and bear fruit.” To “go forth” means to go to visit people to share Christ with them.
Nourishing – for the fruit to remain (John 15:16)
We meet in homes to spiritually feed and cherish newly saved believers.
Perfecting – to equip the believers (Ephesians 4:12)
We meet in small vital groups for fellowship, prayer, mutual care, and teaching the truth.
Prophesying – to build the church (1 Corinthians 14:4-5, 12, 26)
In our large meetings we practice prophesying, that is, speaking for Christ and ministering Christ to one another.
We are thankful to the Lord for His continued presence and blessing among us. “To Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus unto all the generations forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:21).
